Dr Lewis obtained his BA from Trinity College Cambridge, England in medical sciences and biochemistry and did his clinical training at the University of Wales College of Medicine graduating MBBCh in 1977. He undertook junior doctor medical training in the United Kingdom and was appointed Lecturer in Clinical Pharmacology at Guy’s Hospital, London from 1982-1989. During this time he worked on the clinical pharmacokinetics of ifosfamide for his MD thesis, which initiated and stimulated his career focus on the human pharmacology of novel anti-cancer agents. He moved to Dartmouth Medical School in 1993 where he has ongoing activity in the Dartmouth Cancer Centers’ Phase 1 Oncology Program and directs the Cancer Centers’ Clinical Pharmacology Shared Resource, a bioanalytical and pharmacokinetic core, which has received continuous funding from the NCI since 1994. He was the inaugural BJCP American Senior Editor and a co-editor of several editions of “A Textbook of Clinical Pharmacology”, a major text in the field. He has published over 160 peer reviewed articles on aspects of anti-cancer human pharmacology focusing on Phase I studies of novel onco-therapeutic agents.
